It began in 1938 and is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Named the “Sturgis Motorcycle Rally” for the nearest city to the rally itself, there are numerous activities for any biker to appreciate. Over half a million bikers and tourist attend the Sturgis Rally annually. There are many different types of people that come each year. And while walking the streets of the city, while the rally is in full swing, you will find that most are there for the same reason. Namely, the fun and excitement of the biker’s life.
While you are at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally you will be able to attend many different events in the surrounding area. You can ride to Mount Rushmore, the Devil’s Tower and several other places of interest. The bike rally usually kicks off in the beginning of August and lasts for one week. Visitors to the rally are lucky indeed, as it is one of the prettiest times of the year to be in South Dakota and the Black Hills.
There are campgrounds for visiting bikers to stay at and events like demos, races, celebrity appearances, cook offs and much, much more. There are even bars that have events in them.
For some, they highlight of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the charity breakfast, the proceeds of which are donated to the Make a Wish Foundation.
