Veterans, Harley Davidson and Freedom

The manufacturer Harley Davidson is located in the city of Milwaukee. They employ many veterans as patriotism and freedom are great values to them. Their workers are appreciated for the service they give to America. While on active duty, these employees are paid the difference between their military pay and what they would be receiving in their work at Harley Davidson. This continues the full time the employee serves actively in the military service.

Every year, a parade is sponsored by Harley Davidson for veterans on Armed Forces Day. This ends at Veteran’s Park in Milwaukee. The executives of the company often speak at ESGA functions about their employees and what they are doing for their country. Their dealerships at Harley Davidson sponsor many events for veterans. They have breakfasts and give donations to the USO. Motorcycle parades are popular at the dealerships for military personnel. People along the parade routes cheer and wave the American flag as the parade passes them.

About fourteen percent of the employees at Harley Davidson are military veterans or reserve guard members. Members that are actively serving in the military are sent care packages frequently while on duty. The spouses of the veterans serving are checked on often to make sure they are doing alright.

A new program for the company started in 2003 when they began awarding the Genuine Hero Award. This is given for the recipient’s dedication and military service to the United States. The company also puts articles online about military members that are employed by them. The Harley Davidson company stands for “freedom, patriotism and independence.”
