Riders, beware -- there are twice as many fatal motorcycle accidents in the US each year as there are automobile accidents. That is astounding, considering how many motorcycles there are on the road at any one time. It is important to be aware of motorcycle safety rules and regulations in order to prevent something from happening to you or someone you care about.
Right now, 47 of our 50 states have adopted life-saving helmet laws. As soon as the first state passed its law, the other 46 weren’t far behind. In fact, some have taken that law and done one better. Now many of these states have laws that require passengers to wear helmets just as the drivers do. That is a good thing, because many times the passenger gets hurt even worse than the person operating the motorcycle. Those states that have not yet passed a motorcycle helmet law have got to see the logic in such a decision. Not only will it save lives, it will make people pay attention to what they are doing when they are out on these bikes. The most interesting thing is that there are some states that only require riders of a specific age to wear a helmet when riding. That is a start, but it is important that all ages wear helmets in order to protect themselves.
Helmet laws are here to preserve life, so it only makes sense that these rules should be followed. Without the invention of the motorcycle helmet, the fatal accident statistic mentioned earlier would likely continue to rise. We are constantly trying to become safer, so this is certainly a step in the right direction.
