From 1932 to 1973 the Harley-Davidson Company made a servi-car. This was a three wheeled trike with a large or small box on the back. This box was used to carry the mechanics tools for repairs. The servi-car was used by gas stations for servicing cars.
In 1932 the first model offered a tow bar on either the front or the back. This was used to tow a car to the service station if unable to fix at persons home. When finished with repairs they could tow back and deliver the car. A large box with an air tank was available to the mechanics. A small box on the rear with no accessories was also made.
1945 an updated model was produced for the public. This model had a smaller box made for the back. This was the first Harley-Davidson product to have an electric ignition. All models of the servi-car used a 45 flat head motor on them. Some later model went to a different style of 45 flat head motor. These servi-cars were equipped with a three speed transmission with reverse.
The Harley Davidson Company made some police models. These were used for traffic cops to mark tires with a chalk stick. In 1965 the company of Harley- Davidson went to making a lighter box. The boxes were made of fiberglass while the old ones were only made of metal. In 1973, the popularity of the servi-car waned because service stations were not using them any longer.
