Harley Davidson is a name synonymous with motorcycles. From its humble beginnings in 1903 all the way to today, they have been a leader in the industry. One of the reasons is that they offer a means of transportation to the general public that gets them to let their hair down. Another reason is that they have a good mechanical record.
Since the 1920's Harley Davidson was one of the biggest motorcycle manufactures on the planet. They had a special office for sales to the police and other agencies. They were faster and better handling than most of the vehicles on the road. During the 1930's they were marked as the motorcycle of the police. They introduced a three wheel unit called the Servi-Car which was popular with the police and were a standard for years to come. They even made the XA 750 for the military during World War II.
Some of the more popular type of Harleys is the softail, the sportster and the VRSC. The softail has the big-twin motor and a rear-wheel suspension that you can't see on the bottom of the bike. They look like some of the hardtail bikes that were popular in the 60's and 70's. The sportster which was revealed in 1967 was originally designed as a racing bike. They were popular with the dirt and flat-track racers. They are smaller and not as heavy as other Harley models. The VRSC revealed in 2001 looks less like the original bikes and more like one you would see in super bike races. They were created to compete with over seas brands.
